Professional accreditation

This degree is fully accredited by the Surveyors Board of Queensland and is recognised in every Australian state and in New Zealand through reciprocal arrangements. The degree, together with relevant industry experience, enables registration and/or licensing as a cadastral surveyor with the Boards of Surveyors in Australia and New Zealand.

When you graduate, you will be eligible to apply for membership with the Geospatial Council of Australia.

  • With the knowledge you’ll gain from your Associate Degree, you will have the opportunity to begin your career as a surveying technician or associate.
  • Surveyors work in a variety of settings including property and land development organisations, surveying companies, construction companies, government institutions, mining companies and private consultancy, among many others.

Pre-requisites

To study this degree we assume you have sound knowledge in:

  • English (Units 3 & 4, C), and
  • General Mathematics (Units 3 & 4, C)

We assume that your knowledge is equivalent to a grade C or higher in Units 3 and 4 at high school level (typically studied in Year 12). Find out more about assumed knowledge.

It is also recommended that you have studied Mathematical Methods (Units 3 & 4, C), or equivalent.

If you have completed a qualification from a TAFE or qualified private provider, you may be able to use these qualifications to meet UniSQ's entry requirements.

English language requirements

You are required to satisfy the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires a minimum of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent. If you do not meet the English language requirements you may apply to study a University-approved English language program.

Recognition of prior learning or work experience

You may be eligible for recognition of prior learning if you have previously studied or have relevant work experience. This will help to reduce the number of courses that you need to study to finish your program.

Practical experience

As part of this degree, you will need to complete practical experience, where interactive hands-on activities, such as experiments and use of specialist equipment, are undertaken.

All students must be able to meet the physical and other professional requirements of practical experience within this degree.

Residential schools

This degree has a mandatory attendance requirement for some of the residential school courses. All students will have the opportunity to come on-campus for residential schools, where you will attend face-to-face lectures and tutorials to gain practical experience, use facilities and specialist equipment, and meet staff and other students.

What is a surveying degree?

The study of surveying focuses on measuring , mapping and recording features of land and surrounding environments using mathematics in conjunction with specialised surveying technology and equipment. During your Associate Degree of Surveying, you will develop practical specialist skills and knowledge in global navigation satellite systems, surveying, drone mapping and project management.

Become confident in your understanding of the underlying principles and concepts fundamental to spatial science and use these newly found skills to undertake further study such as a Bachelor of Surveying Technology, or Bachelor of Surveying (Honours).

How long does the program take to complete?

The duration of a surveying course will vary, depending on the uni you choose to study with.

At UniSQ an Associate Degree of Surveying will take you approximately two years to complete. Some students choose to study part-time which increases the time it takes to finish the required courses.

What are the entry requirements for this surveying course?

The entry requirements to study an Associate Degree of Surveying will vary depending on the education provider you choose.

At UniSQ you must meet a minimum ATAR, pre-requisites and assumed knowledge to enter our Associate Degree of Surveying. ‘Assumed knowledge’ is the term we use to explain the minimum level of knowledge we presume you have in some subject areas before you start your degree.
