Students from regional Queensland will learn about career opportunities they may never have thought possible when they attend the Beyond Year 10 Camp at USQ this week.

Starting tomorrow (July 18), more than 50 students will find out about post-school options at USQ, TAFE, Queensland Rural Medical Education and Toowoomba Regional Council, as well as visit Toowoomba industry leaders such as Wellcamp Airport, Russell Mineral Engineering, Vanderfield, Grand Central and others.

The high school students will travel to USQ from Wallumbilla, Quilpie, Mitchell, Charleville, Cunnamulla, Roma, Tara and Goondiwindi for the three-day camp.

USQ Beyond Year 10 Camp Coordinator Mary McGovern said it was a chance for students from rural and remote areas to explore career and study options available to them after school.

“This three-day camp is about supporting young people to recognise the diversity of opportunities available, and the study necessary to access those opportunities,” she said.

“The camp provides students with an insight into a range of career paths, academic study areas, career development, social events, and demonstrating what it could be like living at the residential college.”

The regional visitors will also attend the USQ Year 9-10 Careers Day at USQ Toowoomba on Thursday (July 20).

Beyond Year 10 Camp is funded through the Commonwealth Government's Higher Education Participation Program (HEPP) to improve the access, participation and success of students from communities under-represented in higher education.
