Working in groups

During your studies you will be expected to work collaboratively with other students in groups. As you will be assessed on joint projects, all members of the group will need to contribute to the planning, research, presentation of findings and writing of the final report. You will also work informally in groups during seminars, tutorials and practical work.

Group sizes can be small, for example, 4‐6 students, but can also be much larger, with up to 15 or more students involved. The lecturer may allocate the groups or you may be able to choose your own.

Getting started

  1. Get to know your group members and their contact details.
  2. Establish your expectations.
  3. Assign roles.
  4. Divide the task into sections and assign them to a group member.
  5. Create a schedule of meetings and due dates.

The Academic Success Package provides more information on group work.

Set up online channels

To keep everyone on the same page, you can create Google sheets, docs and slides for free with your UniSQ UDrive. These allow you to work on the same document at the same time, and also make it easy to see what everyone is up to.
